Children's Ministries & Programs

At Community in Christ, Presbyterian (CIC, P), our children’s programs nurture faith, build community, and bring joy to young disciples. Guided by Keven Cockrell, Director of Children’s Ministries, we provide engaging, age-appropriate experiences that allow children to explore God’s love in a safe, fun, and supportive environment.

CIC, P offers a vibrant variety of regular and seasonal children’s activities:

  • Children’s Church & Halftime: Engaging worship, stories, and activities during the worship hour.
  • Sunday School (2nd Hour): In-depth faith development and lessons following the worship service.
  • Vacation Bible School (VBS): A fun-filled summer program packed with learning, crafts, games, and fellowship.
  • Blessing of the Backpacks: A special service and prayer celebrating students, teachers, and a new school year.
  • Earth Day: Special activities centered on caring for God’s creation.
  • Christmas Post Office: A holiday tradition where children help deliver Christmas greetings to the congregation while raising funds for ministry projects like VBS.
  • Easter Egg Hunt: Festive spring celebration and egg hunt for children and families.
  • Trunk or Treat: A safe, joyful fall event for community fellowship and trick-or-treating.

Grounded in the call to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7), our youth group seeks to grow in Christ through intentional worship, learning, service, and community. On the first and third Sundays, we gather for Bible study to deepen our understanding of Scripture and strengthen our faith. On the second Sunday, we focus on mission and community service, actively working in and around the church and reaching beyond our walls. On the fourth and fifth Sundays, we build relationships through fun and fellowship, recognizing the importance of joy, connection, and belonging in our faith journey.

Our goals are to be active participants in the life of the church, to serve our community through outreach projects such as Trunk or Treat, Living Nativity, VBS, Easter events, and childcare support, and to grow as faithful leaders through mission trips, fundraising, and budget planning. We commit to attending and planning activities together—including lock-ins, bowling, sporting events, park visits, and creative projects like art, crafts, and youth shirts—that strengthen our bonds and support both the youth group and the wider church. Through all we do, we strive to support one another, serve with compassion, and live out our faith together in every season.

Adult Small Groups

At Community in Christ, Presbyterian our name emphasizes the importance of community life in our church, there are a variety of ways to get involved. Our small groups allow our members to embrace social connection, deepen their spiritual understanding and work to improve out church and surrounding communities. Our groups include:

Adult Second hour Bible Study: Organized and lead by Lynne Poteat, this is a full fledged course of bible study where we dive deep into scripture and examine what the bible really means to us.

Yoga with Jan: Join us for a weekly yoga session lasting one hour, designed to help you relax and recharge. We are pleased to offer chair yoga options, making this practice accessible and inclusive for everyone.

Knitting for Witness (Knitwits): The creations of prayer shawls, lap blankets, scarves, cancer toboggans, and afghans produced by this community support group are collected and then distributed to others in need of a warm hug filled with love and prayer. Praying over their handiwork is the act of knitting for witness, so this dedicated small group is better known as the Knit Wits.

Friday Morning Bible Study: Join us for our Friday Morning Bible Study, where we explore both scripture and secondary texts to deepen our understanding of faith. This group provides a welcoming space to study and grow together in our spiritual journey.
